Completely Blind

You can either walk down the stairs into the dark without knowing what you might feel or what your eyes might catch when they get used to the light...or you can turn the lights on. But here is what I suggest, something that I always do...

Take a lovely stroll along the shelves, take a look at the titles and the covers...The one that speaks to you in some ways, hold it. Glance through the words written on the back cover. Do it as fast as you can to forget everything after, but fast enough to conclude that it's something you would take downstairs.

Now walk down the stairs into the basement and stand on the last tread. Don't take that step, but jump. Don't try to fight the darkness with your eyes, but walk with your eyes closed with your hands stretched in front of you and feel everything your fingertips touch. Touch every object the way your eyes first see a word, and feel them the way your eyes recognize each word. Explore the written ambience, the feelings and picture the scenes and characters... I promise it's different when the lights are on and everything is just there staring back at you.

When knowing and seeing everything, there are no surprises. But when it's completely dark, you'll have no idea what to expect. The only thing left is to explore until you finished the book.

Go into it completely blind. That's what I do. How about you?
